Listen, Watch, & Read

I haven’t written in so long! I think it’s because I haven’t known what to write, and I am reluctant to add my voice to the constant noise of this season. Everyone has an opinion on the current events and I don’t always know what to think. Maybe I will write soon about what the Lord has been teaching me in the midst of all this, but I thought I’d round up a list of the books, sermons, and podcasts. which have encouraged me lately instead.

Out of the 37 books I have read so far this year, a few made it to my favorites list and that’s a hard status to reach!

Green Leaf in Drought (Isobel Kuhn)

This book was extremely impactful for me. I read it earlier this year and promptly ordered several copies to give away. Since then I have order several more… it’s the kind of book I want to give to everyone I know!

Mighty Faith (Oswald Sanders)

This is an extremely small book but it describes faith in such a helpful and thorough way. Be warned that it is difficult to find copies of this book.

Inexpressible (Michael Card)

This book focuses entirely on one Hebrew word. It is the word hesed, often translated lovingkindness or steadfast love (depending on which translation you read). I gained a much clearer understanding of the nature of God who is hesed.

Born for Battle (Arthur Matthews)

I have not finished this one yet but I already know it will be a favorite. This book is written in a daily devotional format and is all about spiritual warfare. I have only read the first seven entries, I think, but can already pinpoint areas it has changed my thinking.

A few others I’ve enjoyed–

What’s in Between Ask and Receive (Tim Dilena from Times Square Church)

The Mercy of God and Waiting (Elisabeth Elliot)

A Pattern for Good (Elisabeth Elliot)

Usually I take advantage of the time I have while doing laundry, cleaning, cooking, driving, etc. to listen to audio books, sermons or podcasts. There are few podcasts I listen to regularly.

The Briefing with Albert Mohler

This is my favorite form of getting the news. Albert Mohler is the president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and he evaluates all the news stories he covers from a Biblical perspective.

Daily Thunder Podcast

This is kind of cheating because usually I hear this podcast in person each morning. But I do appreciate it and recommend it!

Let’s Talk with Melissa Kruger, Jackie Hill Perry and Jasmine Holmes

This is a newer podcast. It’s put out by the Gospel Coalition and generally covers topics pertaining to women from a Biblical perspective. The topics include mentorship, taming the tongue, evangelism, hospitality, discontentment, decision making, etc.
